The tragedy of fan death can be averted by the simple act of leaving a window open. Death by fan is usually attributed to suffocation or hypothermia. Some believe fan death is caused by the breaking up of oxygen molecules by the fan so the air is no longer breathable, which is just silly. The most sound and scientifically accepted belief is that the fan creates a vortex in a small, windowless space, which sucks all of the oxygen out of the room, creating a vacuum.
